Introduced to jazz when he was only a teenager, Andy Burgess and his family’s thrill and passion for jazz has undeniably impacted his artistic career. This Limited Edition collection, with only 100 copies of each image being printed, is a wonderfully vibrant and energetic fusion of jazz and art. With obvious compatibilities and similarities, jazz and collage compliment and play off each other here, with layering, a sense of improvisational freedom and a soulful structureless type of structure.

Burgess’ collection of abstract acoustic guitars measure 22x28” & 18x28” and are printed on Hahnemuhle paper using our exclusive Gouttelette® process; These Limited Editions have deckeld edges and are of exceptional quality with remarkable colour saturation and continuous tonal characteristics. Each edition is hand numbered, stamped and accompanied by a certificate signed by Burgess himself.

Just like the music is to Andy Burgess, this jazz inspired collection, in collage and cubism and composition alike is ‘endlessly interesting’.

“A related term that could just as easily work for collage as is does for jazz is “Ostinato”, signifying a musical motif or phrase that is persistently repeated. In my collage I often take a motif and go back to it again and again, each time modifying and expanding, exploring difference and repetition as integral to the series.”

“Making collage encourages play and experimentation and allows me to make an abundance of smaller works that riff on a central theme.”

“Paying homage to Picasso, I too am deconstructing a well-known motif for my own ends. The cubist guitar is the theme, but each collage offers an endless variety of improvisation, as I play with shape, colour, material, and texture.  The sinuous curves of musical instruments such as guitars and violins offer a counterpoint to the sharper geometric elements of cubism.”
