We're rounding off 2020 with a recap of our popular Art History Facts for the Weekend. Since introduced, we have had the pleasure of sharing the interesting stories behind a variety of artworks, from Edward Hopper's ‘Nighthawks’, an image enveloped in loneliness and isolation, to ‘The Swing’ by Jean Honore Fragonard, a painting so scandalous that it was nearly never made!

Learn the history behind iconic images such as Grant Wood’s ’American Gothic’ and Sir John Everett Millais’s ‘Ophelia’. Find out which painting ended up for sale for only £50 in an antique shop before rocketing to fame and which masterpiece recently appeared in a Beyoncé & Jay-Z music video.

After you have revisited our Art History Facts collection from the year gone, we welcome suggestions of any interesting paintings that you may like us to share the story of in 2021!
