Artist in Focus - Charlotte Hardy

It’s impossible not to fall completely in love with Charlotte Hardy’s charmingly whimsical paintings. She is delightfully drawn to all things girlie, pretty and floral: fragrant bouquets, vintage interiors and a bicycle promenade in a park filled with romantic swans and waterlilies. Her florals and modern still life paintings are as dainty and inviting as her favoured pastel colour palette. Her technique of layering paint to make patterns and depth creates works that are charmingly imperfect perfection.

Since graduating with a first class honours in Printed Textile Design from Manchester Metropolitan University, Charlotte has worked primarily as a painter. Charlottes paintings have been exhibited nationally and published worldwide as prints.

In contrast to the decoration, there is a sense of simplicity where the subject matter is pared down to its’ most important elements. A sense of space, considered compositions and a general use of flattered perspective give the work a strong design feel. This stems from Charlotte’s training in textile design. There is a gentle narrative to the work which has a whimsical quality to it.
