First held in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd by 192 countries. A reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, Earth Day calls for positive changes, encouraging us to come together and take action. The theme for 2024 is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, demanding change and a 60% reduction in production of all plastics as well as releasing studies into the health threat that microplastics can cause.

Inspired by a senator who was horrified by the 800 square mile oil slick he saw as he flew over the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill, the idea for Earth Day started as a teach-in event. This teach-in grew to include the whole U.S. as more than 20 million Americans participated, making the very first Earth Day the largest single-day protest ever. Celebrate Earth Day with this impactful and inspiring collection of some of Earth’s most beautiful locations and creations, focusing on the majestic, unwavering beauty we are being urged to protect.
