Photographic artist Nadia Culph skilfully manipulates and controls light. Her still-life images are inspired by nature’s curiosities & wonders. Keeping her composition simple, Nadia creates stunning photographs that aim to bring the intricate details of nature to the fore. They are a reminder to stop & smell the roses, to slow down & appreciate the little things.

Adopting low-key photography as her technique, Nadia creates drama & mood using natural light to accentuate beautiful botanicals and make them the hero of the piece. Described as ‘chiaroscuro’, this technique is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark.

Living in Melbourne’s leafy suburbs, Nadia takes inspiration from her local surroundings with a strong focus on Australian native flora. Intrigued by unusual patterns, striking colour and bold contrasts, her clever use of diffused sunlight captures the unique design of her botanical subjects.
