Be Inspired - Sakura Season

1040px_Sakura_Season_Banner.jpg

Spring brings blossom and bloom, and Japan in particular is famed for its blossoms, drawing in swathes of tourists and locals alike to marvel at the oceans of pale pink atop the trees.  Japanese cherry blossom, called sakura, only survive for seven to ten days after blooming so they are often considered a symbol of impermanent beauty. This is a bittersweet motif which is also known as ‘mono no aware’, a wistful and gentle awareness and appreciation that everything is temporary.

Seasonal celebrations such as Hanami, the traditional custom of flower watching, have been a national pastime since the eight century. The eagerly awaited peak time for the blossoms in Japan is towards the end of March and beginning of April, although there are early blossoms as soon as January. Featuring striking photography, dreamy landscapes and ukiyo-e style prints all awash with a delicate flutter of blossom. From serene streams to magnificent mountains, wonder at this breath-taking collection of prints that transport you straight to Japan’s sakura season.
