Artist in Focus - Sarah Hart Morgan

640px_SHM_Banner.jpg

Sarah Hart Morgan was born in Virginia and has spent most of her life in Virginia. After studying Design in college, she and her husband did a small stint in the big city before realising they needed to be back home and never far from the mountains.

With her photography she is drawn towards the smaller details found in nature, playing with natural light, texture, pattern and movement. Her motto in life is to “Live Inspired”.

Who inspires you? Photographer, Artist or otherwise?

Mother Nature is my biggest and most constant source of inspiration. I also love Monet for his use of colour and texture, and other period impressionist artists.

How would you describe your photography?

I like to try different photography techniques, however, the common theme is always nature. I love pushing the ‘rules’ and boundaries in photography to pull out hidden colors, textures, and shapes that may not be first visible when looking at the scene in front of you.

Do you have other outlets/hobbies outside of photography?

I am forever a student of nature. I am a surface pattern designer as well, and that body of work also explores the hidden patterns found in nature. I make my own soap and skin care products from local and foraged ingredients found around my area. My family and I live in the beautiful mountains of Virginia and we love to hike in our many state and national parks as well as kayak the Shenandoah River, which we are lucky enough to have in our backyard. I love to garden and decorate our home with thrifted and found treasures we find on our travels.

Do you have a favourite piece of your own?

Sunsets and water have always been very special to me and the memories they hold. ‘Vevang’ holds those such memories.
